Abstract

In My Other Half, Nicholas Rienstra weaves a narrative about loneliness, deception, and the human need for connection.  With dark tenderness, Rienstra explores the ethics of manipulation, the aching hunger for validation, and the paradox of being both predator and caretaker in the same act.

Author Biography

Nicholas Rienstra

Nicholas Rienstra will graduate May 2023 with a Masters of
Art in Teaching. He is a New Jersey native and plans on
teaching high school English. He has a passion for reading
and writing as well as film and social issues such as
environmentalism and the labor movement. His writing
explores ordinary and unexceptional people and the unusual
relationships that they form in an increasingly isolated world.
He hopes readers will relate to his characters and find
something comforting or even romantic in his stories. This is
his second submission to The Undergraduate Review.
